Surf Bali.
Welcome to Kuta
and more spots...
Surf Bali. Bali has excellent waves
all year round, ideal for every kind of surfer - from
beginner to barrel junkie.
Renowned surf spots include Uluwatu in Bali, Grajagan
in Java and Nias off Sumatra, but there is surf along
the southern coast of virtually all the islands in Nusa
Tenggara.
The dry winter months (June-September) are preferred
for surf conditions, however this means that these are
also the most crowded times. Given a bit of local knowledge
it is still possible to find uncrowded perfect breaks
in Bali.
Surf Bali : First session
For my first plunge into the warm Indian
Ocean, I tried the beach breaks at Kuta Beach. It's
a wonderful spot for Beginners to practice.
After Lacanau (France) where I learnt
surfing, I felt like a fish in this spot, no big shore
breaks, no strong current. I was really suprised by
the quite feeling and respect on those peaks. Local
surfers are very cool.
I rented surfboards on Kuta Beach, you
will find very variable quality and prices. For example,
local asked me 150 000 rp for two hours and finally
I paid 75 000 rp a 7' board for two hours.
Ulu Watu, or Ulu's,
is a legendary surf spot, the stuff of dreams and nightmares.
When Kuta Reef is 5 to 6 feet, Ulu Watu will be 6 to
8 feet with bigger sets.

This bay streches out in front of you.
In the shade you can eat, drink, rest and event stay
overnight. It's a great setup for surfers, local boys
will wax your board, get drinks for you and carry the
board down into the cave, which is the usual access
to the wave.
Ulu Watu has about seven different breaks.
Dreamland. At low tide
with a 5 foot swell, this solid peak offers a short,
sharp right and a longer more tubular left. more
